June, 7 - “Sky Hussars” squadron has 32-nd birtday
“…in the late ’60s Moscow Military District Air Forces HQ has understood that it’s became much harder for the 234 Guards Fighters Air Regiment to keep title “aerobatic”. New aircrafts put new limits on the pilots level, their psychological and physical abilities. It was decided to create special squadron, where most talanted and trained pilots could perform aerobatics on demonstration flights. This squadron was created on the 7th June, 1974. According to the order of Commander-in-Chief USSR Airforces it got number 4 in 234 Guards Fighters Air Regiment.
Pilots of 4th squadron were flying Mig-21 and Mig-23. For the 15 years they has performed more then 800 demonstration flights. Due to the Air Forces reorganization in ’80s-’90s 234th regiment left with 3 squadrons only. One squadron was disbanded and 4th squadron was renamed to the 3rd one. In new structure 3rd squadron had task to demonstrate abilities of USSR Air Forces frontline strike aircrafts to the foreign visitors…”
